The purpose of the study was to substantiate proposals for the use of land in the water protection zone of the middle course of the Zybza River in the Krasnodar Territory. As a result of a study of land within the boundaries of the middle reaches of the Zybza River in the water protection zone, a land plot was identified with the type of permitted use “for industrial facilities for oil and gas production”, the placement and use of which was found to violate the current legislation of the Russian Federation. It is not possible to change the location of this facility in a short time, so the task is to minimize the existing economic and environmental damage. Graphical and textual information about the land plot was studied on a public cadastral map, the characteristics of the relief and soils were given, and the location of the water protection zone of the Zybza River was shown. Space images of different years were used to compare changes in the riverbed. Two options for solving the problem were proposed and analyzed, including the installation of a local treatment plant, the principle of which is based on biological wastewater treatment, and the construction of a closed collector, after the installation of which restrictions on the use of the land will be lifted. A new project for the placement of the water protection zone of the Zybza River is shown, thanks to which the land plot will not be located within its boundaries. Capital investments for the installation of a local treatment plant and a closed collector are calculated, the dimensions of the collector are determined, the cost of the necessary work and materials is determined, and the most cost-effective and less costly option is justified. A socio-ecological substantiation of the significance of the project is given, including the normalization of water quality and the improvement of the hydrological regime of the Zybza River.
