Современная Россия не только одна из самых больших по площади государство мира. Россия во многом определяет внешнеэкономические связи, оказывает влияние на общий политический климат в этой части Земного шара. При этом особенностью ее территориального устройства является протяженность государственной границы в связи с чем, большая часть ее субъектов оказываются приграничными районами. Развитие экономики субъектов Федерации как частное от единого целого должно учитывать то место и роль, которую занимает Россия в геополитической системе современного мира. В статье раскрывается место и роль России в глобальной геополитике на основе модели Х. Дж. Маккиндера в целях учета и корректировки региональных социально-экономических программ развития приграничных регионов.
