The article presents an assessment of the state and opportunities for the development of agrotourism in the region as a factor of sustainable development of rural areas. The article discusses the concept of agrotourism, promising types of agricultural tourism, factors and conditions of tourism development in the Kursk region. The authors conducted an assessment of the tourism infrastructure in the Kursk region, revealed the presence of tourism potential, which makes it possible to highlight tourism as one of the priority areas for the development of investment activities in the region. In addition, the reasons for the reduced demand for agricultural tours within the Kursk region are highlighted and it is concluded that the joint development of agricultural production and agrotourism can become a significant means of increasing the level of socio-economic development of rural areas of the region. When combining rural tourism and agricultural production, it is possible to increase the resilience of peasant farms to unfavorable conditions, due to an alternative source of income, which contributes to the promotion of natural products produced by farmers, as well as the socio-economic development of rural areas.
