SUSTAINABLE RICE PRODUCTION UNDER SOIL DEGRADATION CONDITIONS: THE ROLE OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES AND GIS MONITORING
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
Research has established that, under intensive agricultural production, rice farming in the Krasnodar Krai, which accounts for over 70% of Russia's rice harvest, is experiencing progressive soil fertility degradation. Rice-growing regions of the Krasnodar Krai were ranked by soil humus content. Humus levels were found to be declining in all regions except Temryuk. The study aims to develop the foundations of a sustainable model for modern rice farming focused on preserving and restoring soil fertility while simultaneously increasing the economic efficiency of rice production. The study was conducted using the A.I. Maistrenko Krasnoarmeysky Rice Breeding Farm, the largest enterprise in the industry, as a case study. It was found that the expansion of degraded soil areas correlates with a decline in rice yield and gross harvest. The total economic damage from these processes was estimated at 52.2 million rubles. A transition to a sustainable rice farming model based on the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles and geographic information systems is proposed. This system enables land monitoring, agrochemical soil monitoring, land inventory, crop monitoring, and yield forecasting. The study's results confirm that this approach improves production efficiency, reduces environmental impacts, promotes soil fertility, and ensures the long-term sustainability of rice farming.
