Influence of slow-release mineral fertilizers on the growth and development of open-ground tomatoes in the conditions of frozen soils of Yakutia

From 2023 to 2025, experiments were conducted in cryolithozone conditions to study the development of tomato plants under the influence of mineral fertilizers. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of slow-release mineral fertilizers on the growth and development of open-field tomatoes in Central Yakutia. The subjects of the study were the Moskvich tomato variety and the slow-release mineral fertilizers Zion, Fertika, Osmokot Hi K, and Bona Forte. The plot soil is permafrost-affected meadow-chernozem, medium loamy, with a pH of 8.4. The humus content in the upper horizon is 3-6%, total nitrogen (N) is 100 mg/kg, phosphorus (P205) is 149 mg/kg, and K20 is 500 mg/kg of soil. Tomato seedlings were planted in a 40 x 40 pattern in well-warmed soil in mid-June. Each plot contains 20 plants, systematically placed, and replicated four times. Mineral fertilizers were added to the pits during planting. The plants were watered using a drip irrigation system. It was found that the application of mineral fertilizers shortened the tomato growing season to 13 days (142 days); with insufficient heat after planting the seedlings in the ground and during stem growth (2025), the growing season increased by 14 days (156 days). Osmocote Hi-K and Bona Forte fertilizers promoted the formation of the greatest number of brushes per plant – up to 14-16, which exceeds the control (3 to 6). The greatest increase in leaf area compared to the control was achieved with the application of Osmocote Hi K fertilizer (316 cm2), exceeding the control by 105 cm2, or 150% of the control. The highest yield of juicy and tasty tomato fruits was achieved with the application of Osmocote Hi K (3.39 t/ha, or 163% of K).
