The article is focused on the assessment of changes in the structure of the sown areas of agricultural organizations (including subcategories) for the types of crops in the period 2006-2016 based on the preliminary results of the All-Russian Agricultural Census of 2016. It was concluded that in general, the market orientation of agricultural organizations continued, which led to the growth of areas under oil crops with a reduction in the sowing of forage crops. At the same time, there was no dramatic change in the structure of crops at the country level. The structure of subcategories has become more similar. Mainly due to changes in the criteria for classifying agricultural organizations as small, large and medium-sized enterprises lost their dominant position.
