The mineral resource complex determines not only the current capabilities of the country, but also its potential for future development in all spheres of the economy, therefore, an adequate and reliable assessment of the economic efficiency of mining and extraction of minerals is an important problem of modern society. The article highlights the shortcomings of the methodology for evaluating the efficiency of mining based on investment analysis and makes suggestions for the use of correlation and regression analysis as an alternative to the applied assessment methodology. Based on the analysis, a mathematical model for evaluating the efficiency of coal production in terms of profitability of sales has been developed.
