This article outlines the analysis of the role of the scientific and technical progress of the society from the points of view of the most eminent representatives of the key economic theory schools. It is shown that all the researchers, notwithstanding their pertainance to a particular economic school, regarded the scientific and technical progress as a key factor of the economic development of society.
