The scientific article presents a review of domestic literature on the problems of increasing the efficiency of potato production, reducing labor intensity through the introduction of advanced technologies, introducing specialization and concentration of potato production, developing and implementing a program to support potato producers, searching for foreign potato sales channels. The sources of information for conducting a strategic analysis of the industry are shown, the stages of the industry analysis methodology based on the Boston Consulting Group matrix are disclosed. Two directions for conducting a strategic analysis of the agricultural production industry in the Perm Territory are designated, a number of formulas for calculating the growth rates and market shares of regional potatoes are presented. The volumes of potato production in the Volga Federal District are indicated according to the official website of state statistics, the growth rates and shares of the potato market are determined. The regions are differentiated in accordance with the BGT matrix in accordance with the market growth rates and relative market share. The only leading region in the entire Volga Federal District has been identified – Perm Krai, for which potato production is the only source of profit, and therefore should be actively supported by funding provided by various state programs. It has been noted that the overwhelming majority of regions in the Volga Federal District do not need investment in potato production and are in fact the main generator of funds in agricultural enterprises (such regions include the Republic of Mordovia, the Republic of Tatarstan, the Udmurt Republic, the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the Orenburg Region, the Samara Region, and the Ulyanovsk Region). It has been determined that the Penza Region needs investment in order to demonstrate competitive advantages in the potato market.
